What is Cape Seal?
Cape Seal is the combination of Chip Seal and Slurry Seal applications.
Cape Seal is done in three stages:
As a first step, if it is being built on the existing coating and there are large cracks, these cracks must first be repaired by filling them with liquid asphalt or another suitable material to prevent new water ingress.
As the second stage, suitable Asphalt Emulsion is applied for adhesive purposes ( Tack Coat ), and immediately afterwards, Aggregate in the appropriate gradation is laid with a paving machine and compressed with pneumatic rollers, and the second stage, Surface Coating ( Chip Seal), is completed. After this process, traffic is opened to service at low speed.
As the third stage, after the Traffic works for a week, the process is completed by applying Slurry Seal .

First of all, cracks on the road where the application will be made must be repaired.
Chip Seal is applied in accordance with the standards.
Finally, the application is completed with Slurry Seal application in accordance with the standards.
Why Cape Seal?
It is an economical solution for new roads or roads that need to be renewed.
It can be completed in a very short time and does not cause much disturbance to city traffic and the environment.
Thanks to developing technology and equipment, its popularity is increasing as it is a practical solution for higher standard roads.
It can be applied with less equipment.
The " Chip Seal " application, which is the first of the Cape Seal stages, prevents surface water from passing to the lower layers by acting as a membrane and provides great flexibility to prevent reflection cracks from appearing on the new surface. By preventing the aging coating layer from disintegrating. While it provides an advantage by providing a protective and safe braking distance on the surface, the abrasive surface it leaves behind can cause tire noise and a hard and uncomfortable ride for bicycles, skateboards and skates, and dust may occur in this area for a few days. With Slurry Seal, these negativities are eliminated and a more comfortable surface with an impermeable, safe braking distance feature is obtained.
In other words, we benefit from the smoothness of Slurry Seal and the strength of Chip Seal .
Cape Seal is preferred when the deterioration in the pavement is so severe that it is not sufficient to cure it with Slurry Seal application and is so minor that an expensive asphalt layer is not required.
