What is Chip Seal?
Chip Seal is a surface treatment used to protect, maintain and extend the life of an existing street or road. This type of coatings are applied by applying a thin layer of liquid asphalt on a base layer or existing coating layer, and then laying and compacting aggregate of appropriate size and shape. Aggregates can be in one or several layers according to need.
What is Fog Seal?
Fog Seal is a thin application of slow-setting asphalt emulsion diluted with water to the existing surface. It is generally applied to renew old asphalt surfaces that have become dry and brittle over the years. It is also used to cover newly made Chip Seal surfaces. It prevents the coating dust of newly surface-coated surfaces and the loosening of newly applied stones, and increases road comfort by reducing tire noise and rough surfaces. It extends the life of the surface coating without requiring a new application.
Chip Seal Application Method with Fog Seal
After the ground is made suitable for Chip Seal application, liquid asphalt is applied.
Chip Seal (Surface Coating) application is made in accordance with the specifications.
Then, Fog Seal is applied after the Chip Seal (Sathial Coating) has completely hardened and the traffic has been running for approximately 2 months.
Why Chip Seal?
Chip Seal application; It should be preferred if the existing pavement is too deteriorated to be improved with Slurry Seal application, but is not deteriorated enough to replace an expensive asphalt layer. In addition to creating a new wear surface, Chip Seal prevents water ingress that would damage the road body. It is very common on low volume roads because it is economical. However, with the development of technology and equipment, surface coating has become popular in residential areas and high-volume roads.
